I tried a lot of new tools while leading Meet Your Writer in Paris, and my favorite was a word deck. We each got a deck of colorful, blank cards. The assignment was to collect words, haiku and word sketches. By the end of the week, you’d have a deck of quick impressions, inspirations and ideas to build on in other ways.
The deck would make an easy way to capture impressions, especially when we did the sensory tour of the market.
The Marché Bastille is my favorite market, especially on Sundays. It’s a great place to soak up Paris through the senses, and get treats for yourself and others.
This visit, led by the challenge to fill my word deck, was the best time I’ve ever had there. I dropped the commerce imperative and focused on all the things my senses were signaling to me. I wrote haiku after bad haiku, including threads of words I might or might not include in a haiku. So much fun and so many ideas came from this time I invested in my senses tour of the market.
A short video flash through the deck.
